Have any men's ties that are no longer being worn? Need a handy needle keeper? Even children's ties work. (The pictures are of children's clip on ties.I just cut the clip off.) The following directions are for men's ties.
INSTRUCTIONS
Lay tie on flat surface. Measure up from wide end approximately 11" & cut straight across.  Turn cut edges in & whip stitch closed. Next bring the narrow end of the tie up about 1/3 of the way fold & press (this is Section 1), next fold the top or wide portion of the tie (Section 3) down over Section 1 & press.  Tie should now be pressed in thirds. The middle portion is Section 2 where wool or cotton batting is sewn in which to place needles. For a closure, you can sew one part of a large snap on  Section 1 about an inch or so from bottom fold & the other part underneath Section 3 (make sure they line up). This closure is very secure.  Another closure is to snip off the label from the underside of the tie & restitch it on the front of needle keeper. It is sewn about 1/2" up from the bottom fold of Section 1. The pointed tip of Section 3 will slip thru this label securing needle keeper closed. For this method it is helpful to embellish right at the pointed tip of Section 3 which is slipped thru the label.  I used the snap closure but chose to sew 3 rows of beads on my needle keepers just to make them pretty! You could also sew buttons or charms that dangle. Lastly, cut 2 pieces of fulled wool or cotton batting to fit center section (Section 2). This will vary for each tie. Center  wool vertically on Section 2 & sew in place using a decorative or straight stitch on sewing machine.
Voila - another easy & attractive needle keeper!
Needle Keepers
Iove to have my scissors handy when at my sewing machine. I made these scissors holders from dominos!
Instructions: The small black one on the right is made from everyday dominos glued together (white glue works best) in a pleasing shape & size. I used 12 for this one. The base is made from 4 dominos: 2 for first layer & 2 for second layer. The remaining 8 are used for the sides. After glue has completely dried, spray holder with 1 to 2 coats of a thick clear sealer.

The taller scissors holder is made from the larger white plastic dominos. I used 10 dominos for this one. The base uses 2 & the remaining 8 form the sides of the holder.  Stamp dominos with desired images using a permanent ink like "Stayz On" and allow them to
dry completely, (or decorate as desired). Next, spray them with a thick clear sealer to seal the stamped image. Now glue dominos together (using an epoxy glue) in the shape & size desired. I wanted a holder for a larger pair of scissors & the larger dominos work perfectly in this case.  When the glue is completely dry, spray 1 to 2 coats of a thick clear sealer again & let dry throroughly.
Voila` 2 very easy scissors holders for your sewing room, no searching for those scissors anymore!
